Open air theatre will return to Carew Castle this summer, with four exciting performances scheduled to take place at the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority-run attraction.
This year’s programme begins on Tuesday 26 July with Jane Eyre, the epitome of Victorian love stories. Set in the windswept moors, this classic adaptation offers a treat for all lovers of Brontë’s dark romance. Doors open at 6pm and the show will begin at 7pm.
August will see the performance of two children’s productions at this picturesque setting.
Rapunzel – A Tangled Musical is a brand-new family musical adaptation of the classic fairy tale. Suitable for ages 4+, with an abundance of magic, mayhem and a chance to meet characters after the show, this hair-raising adventure will take place on Tuesday 9 August at 5.30pm, with the doors opening at 4.45pm.
On Tuesday 23 August, David Walliams’ Awful Auntie will grace Carew’s stage. Based on the seventh book of the popular children’s author, Awful Auntie tells the story of Stella Saxby, who is tormented by her awful Aunt Alberta and her giant owl. The dastardly duo will stop at nothing to take her inheritance from her, and the production promises to be a real hoot. Recommended for those aged 7+, doors open at 5.45pm and the show starts at 6.30pm.
The final performance of the season will be Dracula on Saturday 3 September. In this brand-new adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic gothic horror by British Touring Shakespeare, Professor Abraham Van Helsing, an expert in the supernatural, presents his most terrifying case yet, after being called to help a young woman who becomes mysteriously ill during a trip to Whitby. This play contains adult themes which may be unsuitable for younger audience members, so parental discretion is advised. Doors open at 4.45pm and the show starts at 5.30pm.
Booking is essential for all performances.
Carew Castle and Tidal Mill Manager, Daisy Hughes said: “Our open air theatre performances haven proven extremely popular over recent years, so we would recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
“Tickets are non-refundable and the performances will go ahead in wet weather.
Those attending any of the events will need to bring a rug or low backed chair to sit on, a picnic and suitable clothing to ensure they’re settled in for an enjoyable evening.”
