Despite getting married in 1947, Queen Elizabeth’s dress remains as one of the world’s most popular. Designed by Norman Hartnell, the dress was made from duchesse satin, complete with a 13ft train.
Princess Beatrice took inspiration from her grandmother, as her dress was also designed by Hartnell – and it comes with a special secret. As a sweet nod, she loaned the dress from her grandmother, making her the first royal to wear a second-hand wedding dress.
A statement from the Palace explained that Princes Beatrice’s dress was ‘made from Peau De Soie taffeta in shades of ivory and trimmed with ivory Duchess satin, with organza sleeves. It is encrusted with diamanté and has a geometric checked bodice.’ To give the dress a modern feel, it was altered for the princess, who chose to add organza sleeves, which were made by the Queen’s own dressmaker Angela Kelly.
