Police in Llanelli can confirm that a report of an unusual approach to a child in a town centre store was not an attempted abduction and no crime was committed.

The incident was reported to police on Thursday, November 26.

Officers attended the store and after enquiries, which included viewing the store’s CCTV footage with the child’s parents, interviewing the parents and the suspect, it is evident that no offence has been committed.

There will be no further police action.

Inspector Stuart Bell said: “This was a serious allegation and one that required sensitive and effective investigation to accurately establish the circumstances. Officers are completely satisfied that this was a misunderstanding and there was no intention to take or harm the child in any way.

“I wish to reassure visitors to Llanelli Town Centre that there is no need for concern or alarm. We live in one of the safest areas of the UK and while that does not mean we should be complacent, we should feel reassured when going about our daily business in the town centre.

“Police are aware that details of the lady in question have been circulated on social media. I urge people to please remove her photograph and not to share any further posts that allege any wrongdoing as she has not committed any crime.”
