Summer has well and truly arrived at Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre in St Davids, where a Craft Market and an exciting programme of children’s workshops will be taking place over coming weeks.
Building on the success of last year’s pop-up stalls, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority-run attraction will host a Summer Craft Market in its Courtyard from 10am-3pm on Saturday 6 August. Entry is free and the event provides a wonderful opportunity to discover the perfect gift or keepsake, while supporting local artists, craftsmen and producers.
There will be plenty to keep younger visitors amused too, with free traditional funfair games in the picnic area and a chance to take part in a collaborative collage to celebrate our National Park. A Summer Fun Trail will also run during the event at a cost of £2 per child, small prize included.
The creative fun isn’t limited to one day, though. Throughout the summer holidays, children will be able to join talented local artists in Oriel y Parc’s weekly arts and craft workshops. These will take place every Wednesday throughout August.
On Wednesday 3 August, Elly Morgan will be running a series of mud and clay creations workshops, while the 10 August offers the opportunity for young people to draw nature from sounds and movements under the tutelage of Hannah Rounding and create their own nature book. Kate Evans will be taking the reins on Wednesday 17 August with sessions on weaving with recycled materials, and on Wednesday 24 August, Hannah Rounding will return to lead some watercolour workshops, using re-purposed household items.
The final arts and craft workshop will be a Summer Ranger-led drop-in session on Wednesday 31 August, where participants will get the chance to make their own bee bombs.
Claire Bates, Visitor Services Manager at Oriel y Parc, said: “We look forward to welcoming visitors of all ages this summer, as well as giving local business a boost and connecting more young people to the world of art.
“Booking is essential for all workshops. There is no age limit, but we ask that each child is accompanied by one responsible adult. Places can be booked online with no charge for accompanying adults.”
