| Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service statement on Barn Fire 04/08/2022 |
| Today at 05:31am, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to a 100ft barn in Talachddu, Brecon.Crews from Brecon, Llandrindod Wells, Haye On Wye, and Builth Wells arrived to a barn fire, measuring approximately 30 x 10 meters, containing around 150 bales of hay, well alight. All bales were removed from the barn by farmer using a mechanical grab. Approximately 30% heat and smoke damage was caused to the rear of the barn. The national grid were in attendance and isolated the electric supply to barn – crews then assisted with damping down and turning over bales. 6 Hose Reel Jets were used, along with a water bowser, Thermal Imaging Camera, personal respirators, ceiling hooks, and pitchforks. Welsh Water informed of the supply required. An estimated 60000 litres of water was used in this incident!Crews continued to extinguish and dampen down and left the incident with the owner to monitor at 10:53am.Station Manager Richie Vaughan Williams said; “This morning’s incident demonstrates the time and resources required to effectively deal with these types of fires safely and effectively, often requiring the help and expertise of other agencies.
