Archery GB has announced the line-up of talented young athletes (see below) who will be representing their country at the European Youth Archery Championships next week. A squad of 24 archers will be shooting alongside over 300 athletes from 36 countries, over six action packed days of competition.

Great Britain’s archers are continuing a tremendous year of success, with gold, silver and bronze medals being won at multiple events worldwide including the European Championships in Munich, World Games in the USA, Para Archery European Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Medellin, Colombia, and the European Youth Cup in Bucharest.

The European Youth Archery Championships is the perfect opportunity for young archers aged 21 and under to make their name on home soil and showcase the immense talent within the team, with the encouragement of local support.

Penny Healey and Layla Annison are amongst the names to watch – both having competed and medalled with great success globally throughout their careers. They are competing in the U21 Recurve and Compound events respectively.

Individual and team events on show – stars of the future have the chance to shine

This prestigious archery event takes place at Lilleshall National Sports Centre from 15-20 August 2022 and there are multiple medals to be won in both individual and team events. With practice and qualification rounds, as well as team and individual matches and finals taking place, the days will be action packed and the event promises to attract hundreds of archers and spectators.

Thursday’s events (18th August), which see both individual matches, as well as mixed team finals are free to watch from 2pm, as are Friday’s events, which include both team and individual finals. Tickets are available to book via Eventbrite, Saturday’s individual finals matches and awards ceremony tickets cost just ÂŁ10 per person (plus VAT and booking charges). Tickets can be booked here.

Commenting on the European Youth Archery Championships, Compound Programme Manager, Jon Nott, said: “I am very proud of this team we are fielding for the European Youth Championships. This group of athletes have worked incredibly hard since the UK came out of lockdown to get back to being at the level required to be competitive at an event like this.

“It’s a great honour to be able to compete for Great Britain on home soil at this event, and we have a team that will be competing for medals in all disciplines. We encourage as many people as possible to come and support our youth athletes and to cheer them on.”

Neil Armitage, CEO at Archery GB said: “It is always wonderful to have our archers compete at home and for us to host such a prestigious event at Lilleshall is very exciting. Just last month we were thrilled to have the Queen’s Baton Relay pass through our grounds, providing another opportunity to showcase all that is inclusive, diverse and exciting about the sport.

“Our athletes have had an incredible year so far, competing in national and international competitions, winning medals on the world’s stage and raising the profile of our wonderful sport. The hard work and dedication is clear and we look forward to seeing how the team performs next month and to welcoming archers from 36 countries to our home field.”

The European Youth Archery Championships is held on behalf of World Archery Europe every two years. The 2018 tournament took place in Patras, Greece and the planned 2020 event at Lilleshall was cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
