Booming Brian Blessed is back helping a Swansea school brighten up Christmas for child cancer sufferers.
Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn has linked up with the larger than life bearded actor who in the past has helped then with a Doctor Who magazine and an animated movie adventure.
Boisterous Brian has this time added his dulcet tones and star quality to the youngster’s animated short film ‘The Night Before Christmas’.
And on Friday December 4, the special school will premiere the film they created at the National Waterfront Museum. All proceeds raised from the film will also be donated to the Kids Cancer Charity.
The school’s Christmas enterprise group will also be launching a Star Wars book featuring interviews, articles and artwork which they put together in aid of the good cause.
The finished book will also part of a display about space currently being exhibited at the museum.
Cllr Jen Raynor, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “Christmas would not be Christmas in Swansea without a special offering from students at Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn and once again they have managed to out-do themselves with another star-studded fundraiser.
“It’s just one of the many ways that this school is helping youngsters achieve and demonstrate their potential and the students, their parents, and their teachers should be tremendously proud.”
The animation features silhouettes of the pupils as characters from the classic poem about the arrival of St Nicholas or who we now more commonly know as Santa Claus.
As well as fundraising for a good cause, the project enables the sixth formers involved to work towards an Agored Cymru qualification for running a charitable enterprise.
Gethin Sutton, Head Teacher at Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn, which caters for youngsters with a range of disabilities, said: “The animation project continues our tradition of offering pupils the invaluable experience of working with talented partners in the arts and industry to develop projects which showcase their talents and developing skills.
“We are thrilled to be premiering our latest film at the National Waterfront Museum and we thank them for their continuing support.”
Pupil James Griffiths, of Year 12, said: “I love coming to enterprise classes every week because I get to learn lots of new things.”
Jamie Martin, also a Year 12 pupil, said: “I enjoyed using the computers and it was fun getting to go to Bay Studios to film the scenes.”
