On a beautiful summer evening at Stafford Common home of Garden Village Football Club a good crowd had turned up to watch what turned out to be a very entertaining game.
The visitors were Mumbles Rangers who are getting used to life in Tier 3 of the Welsh League following on from their promotion last season.
The game kicked off and it was Mumbles Rangers who got off to a great start when striker Elliot Smith scored from close range in the third minute. 0-1 The home team Garden Village got an equaliser two minutes later as Rangers lost possession and Village winger Ricky Martin assisted his fellow striker Samuel Ash to loop his shot over the Rangers goalkeeper and clip the underside of the cross bar into the goal net.
1-1 Mumbles Rangers settled more into the game and it was their striker Elliot Smith whose tenacious play grabbed Rangers second to restore their lead 1-2 Village tried to respond but some good goalkeeping from young Ranger’s stopper Callum Andrews kept them at bay.
Village thought they had a claim for a penalty shout but the referee waved play on and the quick Rangers counter attack saw Rangers Aled James break away and play in co-striker Elliot Smith to score and make it his individual hattrick of goals in the 34th minute of this game.
1-3 Rangers took this lead into half time and were fairly confident of defending it for the second half. The second half did see the home side try to ramp up the intensity but their efforts were being stifled by an all-round Rangers team defensive display. Rangers also created half chances but just couldn’t find the finish they needed.
With the final whistle about to go Rangers Captain Chrissy Allen did manage to break the second half deadlock with two well taken goals in the 89th and 91st minutes to round off a comprehensive away win for his team. 1-5 Rangers Manager Kurtis March will be well pleased with his team’s performances with two away wins in the opening two away games of the Season and another difficult away game at Pontyclun FC awaits them this Saturday.
