Award-Winning Comedian and Author Releases Long-Awaited Second Children’s Book

A Feast for Pleasant Beasts is the Follow-Up to J.T. Bird’s Debut Children’s Book The City That Barks and Roars

Award-winning comedian J.T. Bird has released a second children’s book following the commercial and critical success of his debut offering.

A Feast for Pleasant Beasts is a tale of monsters, a food-fueled gathering and a series of mishaps. But the underlying message for children is one of kindness and friendship.

Like all classic children’s tales, there’s an important moral to J.T.Bird’s latest novel. Serious themes such as diversity, respect, good manners and friendship run right through this fun-filled yarn.

Bird expertly weaves these life-affirming messages into a plot that’s both fun and dynamic. And like all great tales, it manages to use fun, excitement and engagement as an in-road into the psyche of today’s children.

A Feast for Pleasant Beasts centres on a ‘forest feast’ held in July. Every imaginable monster is cordially invited to the auspicious event. And there’s just one rule: marvellous manners for all.

No matter how monstrous or terrifying, all attendees must be reasonably pleasant and exhibit good manners at all times. But when the likes of yetis, cyclops, trolls and pungent monsters get together for a feast in the forest, there are bound to be a few bumps in the road.

This stunningly animated children’s novel is 46 pages of sheer joy. Drawing inspiration from modern-day classics such as The Tiger Who Came to Tea and Where the Wild Things Are, Bird’s latest creation hammers home a series of important lessons to children. Tolerance, understanding, empathy and kindness feature prominently — giving parents a fun way to address traits that are all too rare these days.

An award-winning stand-up comedian, Bird lives very happily with his wife and child in North London. And while his writing career is still in its infancy, it’s already proving to be a success. His first children’s book, The City That Barks and Roars, was a critically acclaimed hit. And the early reviews for Bird’s second creation have been equally impressive.

Bird is excited to finally be sharing his latest children’s novel with the world. He said:

“As a comedian, I’m used to using humour as a way of reaching out to people and spreading important messages. Kids love humour; they learn through it. So, I thought to myself: what better way to teach today’s children about respect, diversity and tolerance than by using the gift of giggles.”

“Because my first book was so well received, I felt a little pressure to follow it up with something equally popular. The City That Barks and Roars has already been optioned for an animated TV series, so the bar was quite high.

A Feast for Pleasant Beasts is all about fun and friendship. While the themes are important and very topical right now, they’re hidden in small bundles of joy. This book tells children that being a decent and kind person is always the best option. It’s also a cautionary tale about never judging a book by its cover.

“Whether parents use it as a bedtime story or as a way of introducing them to positive behaviours, this book is intended to be lots of fun. Everything from the wacky illustrations to the funny character descriptions is intended to bring joy into the lives of children.

“Kids who love peculiar creatures will really connect with this book!”

J.T.Bird has clearly struck a chord with children and parents alike. The author’s first book was perfect for bedtime reading and quality time together, and his latest creation looks set to achieve a similar feat.

A Feast for Pleasant Beasts will be available in paperback for £8.99 and various eBook formats for £2.99 from October 1st, 2022.

About J.T. Bird

They say that J.T. Bird was always destined to be a literary genius. The author’s humble North London digs are sandwiched between the former homes of Robert Louis Stevenson and HG Wells — but Bird insists this is just a coincidence. Nevertheless, the acclaimed comedian has an undoubted knack for children’s literature; one only has to read his first book — The City That Barks and Roars — for evidence of that. With two beautifully illustrated children’s books already under Bird’s belt, this rising star is now being referred to as the Batman of the entertainment world: children’s fiction author by day, award-winning stand-up by night.
