A total of 41 drivers were stopped by schoolchildren for speeding and told to slow down or else.
Pupils from Tycroes, Pontyberem and Ysgol Llechyfedach in Tumble are all taking action to reduce the speed of motorists outside their schools.
Officers from the council’s road safety unit and Ammanford and Cross Hands Neighbourhood Policing Teams went along to the schools to target speeding drivers during Road Safety Week.
Pupils used a Speed Indicator Device to tell if motorists were driving too fast – it flashed their speed along with a happy face if they were within the limit or a sad face if they were over the limit.
Offending drivers were given the option of speaking to the children to explain why they were speeding outside their school or accept a fixed penalty notice.
Pupils in Pontyberem spoke to 17 drivers, children in Llechyfedach stopped 13 cars, and in Tycroes 11 motorists faced questions.
Executive Board Member for Transport Cllr Hazel Evans said: “The aim of this initiative is to educate drivers and raise awareness of the impact that speeding vehicles has on local communities and the safety of the public. Speed is a cause of road traffic accidents and casualties. Facing the children and having to answer their questions can really help the message to hit home. It also highlights the dangers of speeding for the pupils as well.”
