After consultation with North Wales Police, organisers of The GWCT Welsh Game Fair have been granted permission for visitors to shoot large calibre rifles in the historic Vaynol tunnels during the three-day event which takes place 9-11 September at Vaynol Hall near Bangor.

This unique opportunity, dubbed ‘The Charles Lancaster Experience’, will take around one hour at the indoor rifle range inside the disused railways tunnels, under supervision of qualified range officers from Bangor & District Rifle Club and Charles Lancaster Gunmakers.

For a fee of £38, visitors with a valid Firearms Certificate will be able to shoot a rifle in .375 H&H four times at a life-size game target inside the tunnels, which have been converted into a 100m six-lane rifle range. Shots will be assessed by range officers, with the overall ‘best shot’ presented with a brand new, handmade Charles Lancaster hunting knife worth £385.

Event director James Gower said: “The Vaynol tunnels provide a unique opportunity not available anywhere else in an event environment for the practical have-go-experience of firearms. This is great news for the industry and gives The GWCT Welsh Game Fair its unique identity. This is an area we will expand over the coming years.”

Visitors must book in advdance.
