Recent analysis of Google search data reveals that searches for ‘insomnia help’ exploded 792% in the UK on the 6th of September, to the highest point since the cost-of-living began to rise in February 2022.
A new finding by bedroom experts Bed Kingdom reveals that online interest in ‘insomnia help’ exploded to over seven times the average volume, an unprecedented spike in people searching for advice about sleeping since the cost-of-living crisis began, according to Google search analysis.
The rise in searches comes as next month is set to see the energy price cap rise 80% to its highest price yet of £3,549 a year. The new average bill for electricity and gas for 24 million households means energy bills will have almost trebled from October last year when they were an average of £1,277, a major factor in inflation rising to a 40-year high. The rise in the cost-of-living has prompted widespread cutbacks for Britons in their day to day life, leading to anxiety, stress and lack of sleep.
A spokesperson for Bed Kingdom commented on the findings:
“The current economic climate is uncertain, leaving many with feelings of anxiety and stress which are key contributors to insomnia. If you are experiencing insomnia symptoms, it’s important to seek professional help as quickly as possible as lack of sleep can lead to poor decision making, increased stress and a constant irritable feeling.”
