Dear Editor
Let’s not go nuclear
It is the height of madness to fund another nuclear fission power station at Sizewell costing £34 billion, with Hinkley C currently costing £24 billion and yet to come on stream. What a legacy to leave to our children and grandchildren – foreign owned, very expensive and years to build, dangerous, hazardous waste and horrendous decommissioning costs – not to mention a potential target for terrorists. Time and again fission nuclear reactors have shown to be prone to explosions and radiation leaks, just look at the record for Ukraine, Japan, USA, France and Britain – when will we ever learn. But why nuclear fission reactors when there are other viable, safer and cheaper options available. Over ten years ago I opined as a consequence of perceived political ineptness, that we would end up with the worst of both worlds, wind generation and nuclear fission – never did I dream that solar farms would also enter the equation – strategy formed at the Mad Hatter’s tea party – what utter folly.
