Fans of the Scarlets will no longer have to trawl the internet for the latest news about their favourite team and its players thanks to an innovative new mobile app.

The Llanelli-based region is the first sports organisation in the world to provide their fans with custom SportRightNow mobile apps thanks to a partnership with www.RightNowDigital.com.

The new platform for mobile devices and tablets offers fans a simple ‘one stop shop’ for news and information.

Instead of browsing multiple web pages and apps to find out what is happening to or what is being said about their beloved team, its players and their upcoming opponents, Scarlets fans will have instant access to everything all in one place.

The app, which is free to download on both Android and Apple devices from http://bit.ly/scarletsapp, gathers news stories from every major media organisation as well as all updates from the club and its players from social media and video platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

Nigel Short, chairman of the Scarlets, said: “Our hard-working fans don’t have the time to go from site to site checking for news of their favourite team and many of them want a really simple way to check social media to see what pops up there daily.

“This app solves these problems, which is why we decided to become the first club to offer it to our fans so they can keep up to date wherever they are in the world. Our players have already tested it and found it convenient, if slightly addictive.”

Simon Ryley, director of RightNowDigital, said: “As a supporter of Manchester United, I developed this technology after becoming annoyed at how difficult it was to keep up with the team on a smartphone.

“It seems crazy that sports fans have to do the same daily trawl around the internet looking for updates, when we can do that for them and also eliminate the pain of finding and following their favourite players on social media.

“Think of it as being able to walk into a newsagent and look at every single newspaper or magazine, rip out all the bits about your favourite team, and leave without paying a penny.”

Dorian Davies, chairman of the Scarlets Supporters Trust Crys 16, said: “Avid Scarlets fans can’t wait to get hold of news and information about their club and it’s great they will be able to have this constantly updated ‘one stop shop’.

“It’s good to see the Scarlets leading the way in the use of technology in regional rugby.”
