Eight international Scarlets visited Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen, on Tuesday 15th December, to spread some Christmas cheer ahead of this weekend’s European Rugby Champions Cup clash against Glasgow Warriors on Saturday.

The Scarlets players went along to Cligerran Children’s Ward at Glangwili General to bring festive joy to the children who are suffering from illness over Christmas.

Their afternoon visit saw them move from bed to bed visiting patients from across the region, hand out Scarlets goody bags, gifts from Tesco Trostre and signed posters as well as posing for photographs.

The visits, which have become an annual event in the region’s calendar, are an opportunity for the players to give something back to the region.

Scarlets fullback Liam Williams said: “It was a real privilege to be able to spend a little time here, meet some of the region’s young children and be thankful for what we have.

“A distraction in the middle of their long day on the ward can only be a good thing and we really enjoy coming here as players to see how the little ones are doing.”

Whilst on the ward Liam Williams along with his Scarlets colleagues Gareth Davies, Samson Lee, Jake Ball, Ken Owens, Scott Williams, John Barclay and DTH van der Merwe visited the children and chatted with staff about their workload over Christmas.

The Scarlets would like to thank all the staff at Cilgerran Ward, Glangwili General Hospital for their warm welcome and a speedy recovery to all of the patients. We’d also like to thank Tesco Trostre for donating gifts to the patients and to the Ward’s play room.
