Llys-y-frân has developed its activity offering over the past 18 months, and with the addition of a new Activity Manager – Hope Filby, the Activity Team has grown from strength to strength. The fifteen strong team are experts in delivering watersports and have been increasing their knowledge and skill set with the introduction of archery, axe throwing and a climbing wall.
Recently, the Activity Team organised a cycling event at Llys-y-frân, the first of its kind took place on Saturday 17th September and was a great success. With six categories, the event attracted all ages, including a ‘retro bike’ category. Winners were given medals and prizes, with the support from local bike shop ‘2WheelsRUs’ and professional coaching app ‘The Pillar App’. Entrants took on the fierce 0.5 mile hill climb while spectators looked on with encouraging applause.
Activity Manager, Hope Filby said ”We were thrilled to see so many competitors attend the Climb of the Llys-y-frân Lake on Saturday. Despite the challenging hill, all competitors reached the top and we saw some incredible times! We’re currently working on the next Climb of the Llys-y-frân Lake which will have two new routes competitors can take on. The challenge continues on Saturday 4th February 2023, so keep that date free.”
The dedication of the Activity Team has been recognised with the recent announcement that Llys-y-frân has been selected as a finalist for a Croseo Award in the ‘Activity/Experience Provider of the Year’ category.
Manager Mark Hillary said ”What a great achievement it is for Llys-y-frân to be selected as a finalist for a Croeso Award! We strive to deliver fun and exciting activities for all to take part in, and to be selected demonstrates the hard work the team have put into their roles here. We’ve had a busy year and have welcomed several school groups over the summer months. Feedback from teachers and pupils has been incredible and we are looking forward to hosting many more school activity days in 2023. We are currently hosting Pembrokeshire College for a series of student water and land-based activities, which has been a huge success.”
The Croeso Award final is due to be held on 20th October at Crug Glas, St David’s. The Activity Team are looking forward to hanging up their wetsuits and donning something more glamourous for a change!
Events are a key part of the visitor experience at Llys-y-frân, with a variety of events set to run throughout the year. Next on the list is the inaugural ‘Food & Drink Fair’ on 22nd October, followed by an exciting new bonfire celebration day and evening and a Christmas Fair.
