The First Minister for Wales, Carwyn Jones, today announced the 76 organisations successful in securing Welsh Government funding to help facilitate and promote the use of the Welsh language during 2016-17.

Urdd Gobaith Cymru, The National Eisteddfod, Merched y Wawr and the Young farmers Movement are amongst the organisations set to benefit, with the £4 million funding also supporting the network of ‘papurau bro’ and ‘Mentrau Iaith’ across Wales.

The First Minister said:

“This package of support will enable these organisations – many of which are an intrinsic part of Welsh identity and culture – to continue their prominent role in promoting and facilitating the use of the Welsh language at grass root level.

“We want to see a strong future for the Welsh language and there is a great deal of good work already evident by individuals, groups and organisations across Wales. This £4 million ensures that we continue to compliment and build on these successes, providing opportunities for Welsh speakers old and new to use, share and enjoy the language both over the coming year and for years to come.”
