Dear Editor,

When we were restricted by how far we could travel at the height of the pandemic lockdowns, one of the things that helped us cope was exploring our local path network and green spaces.

But as too many people found, many paths are in poor condition and are in desperate need of investment.  We estimate that as much as 50% of our path network is inaccessible, often blocked or overgrown, despite the best efforts of our volunteers and local authority countryside departments.

We are calling on everyone in Wales to show their support for the paths which connect us to nature, to our local heritage and culture, to nearby communities, and helps us to stay fit and healthy.

By signing our pledge, you can add your voice to our call for Welsh Government to take action now and stop our paths disappearing.

We want Welsh government to step up with:

– Fair funding for path maintenance and improvements, equivalent to at least 10% of Active Travel budgets.

– Freely accessible public information about the condition of local paths to help mobilise local action.

It’s time to put your foot down and make your mark!
