The insurance value of the 2022 Bake Off tent will have you in tiers!
It’s that time of year… GBBO is back on our TV screens and has already started to deliver some showstopping (and a few questionable looking) bakes. But, we aren’t here to talk about the cakes. We’re here to talk about the infamous Bake Off tent and the insurance value of all of its glorious kitchen gadgetry.
Insurance provider SO-SURE, have calculated the total cost and it’s definitely more than your average kitchen at nearly £50k!
With a fresh batch of bakers in the tent, what equipment are they using this year to whip up their technical, signature and star bakes?
Let’s start where all the magic happens – the infamous giant Bake Off marquee.
Drum roll please… this is very ‘intents’ – Insurance Value: £13,643
Based in leafy Newbury, Berkshire, the Bake Off tent is located on the grounds of Welford Park – a country house and estate inherited in 1997 by Deborah Puxley.
Bake Off is one of the only reality shows that enables contestants to film across weekends in order to resume a normal working life during the week. This gives an approximate 20 days for filming.
Now, to rent a clear span marquee of a similar size for the duration of filming, would cost approximately £13,643 including the installation and the carpet. Yep, that’s some serious dough and that’s only the tip of the icing-berg…
Keep calm and carry on with the Neff Slide&Hide oven – Insurance Value: £899.99
Now, these impressive ovens have become a staple in the Bake Off tent since the show began. Not only do they look really impressive, but these models also have a signature ‘slide and hide’ door that neatly tucks away to enable the bakers to carefully slide or lift their bakes out of the oven without any obstructions.
The oven has become a popular choice among aspiring home bakers, with celebrities such as Duncan from Blue revealing that he has one too!
Various retailers sell Neff Slide&Hide ovens and models can range from around £600 to £1,500, so it’s worth shopping around to see which one is best for you. The exact model used in the Bake Off tent is believed to be the Neff B57CS24N0B Slide & Hide Pyrolytic Single Oven 60cm.
Chill out with a Zanussi Retro fridge freezer – Insurance Value: £953.95
Bakers running back and forth to the fridge trying to cool their cakes down, so they can start building their masterpiece before the time runs out, is commonplace on GBBO.
Previously, SMEG fridge freezers were used in the tent but the switch to Zanussi is said to be due to wanting to have a fridge that was less obviously branded. We don’t mind the switch, as the Zanussi ZTAE31EM1 still very much fits into the slightly retro, pastel-themed kitchen, the Bake Off tent is known for.
You can pick up a Zanussi Retro Frost-Free Fridge Freezer here.
This Dualit hand mixer is whisky business… – Insurance Value: £58.51
Now, you can’t whisk up a storm in the GBBO tent without this trusty appliance. Made of metal instead of plastic, these sturdy hand mixers are worth the premium price tag. From making a light and airy cake mix to whipping cream and spinning sugar, the Dualit hand mixer is a baker’s best friend.
You can whisk one of these away for yourself here.
Whipping up magic with the Magimix food processor – Insurance Value: £299.95
The Magimix food processor is the ultimate all-in-one food processor. With a wide range of attachments, the bakers have everything they need to slice, chop, grate, beat and knead their way into the final.
Again, opting for a creamy pastel colour to fit into the tent aesthetics, the Magimix food processor is versatile and has been given the Quiet Mark stamp of approval, meaning all 12 bakers could have this on the go and you would (most probably) still be able to hear a pin drop. Ah. Baking bliss.
You can pick one of these up here.
Go with the dough and grab a KitchenAid stand mixer – Insurance Value: £499.99
Another mixer? Yes. ‘Why?’ you ask. The first one was a handheld mixer and sometimes you need something a bit bigger to get the job done. For bakes that require a heavier dough, having a heavy-duty fixed stand mixer makes life a lot easier. With the KitchenAid stand mixer bakers are able to mill, spiralize and knead until their hearts are content.
You can pick up one of these mixers in a range of lovely pastel colours here.
Watt’s good about this Swan Nordic microwave? – Insurance Value: £149.00
Now you may be wondering why you would use a microwave when baking but when you have time constraints it’s often handy to be able to speed up some of the processes. Using a microwave, the bakers can melt butter or chocolate with ease to add into their mixtures.
Inspired by the sleek Scandinavian style, the Swan Nordic Digital Microwave is both elegant as well as practical.
You can buy one of them here.
And now… crumbs on seats for the grand insurance total of the main contents in the Bake Off tent… taking into account appliances for all 12 bakers, we are estimating a cost of approximately £47,975! Something tells us Channel 4 have more than enough dough to cover that cost.
If you’d like to bake the world a butter place, it would cost you around £2,861.39 to create your own personal Bake Off kitchen at home. And, you can cover your contents with us for extra peace of mind.
