Boxing Day match goers to Parc Y Scarlets for the annual derby clash with the Ospreys are being urged to park safely.
The council, police and Scarlets management are working together to make sure the traditional Christmas fixture at the 14,870 capacity stadium runs smoothly.
The match is expected to be a sell-out and supporters are being advised to use the official car parks or the park and ride with more sites being made available this year.
The lay-by on the A484 will be closed and enforcement action will be taken against anyone parking illegally on the grass verges or the Tata Steel works feeder road.
Residents in Maes ar Ddafen Road and the Cefn Caeau estate to the rear of the stadium have also previously complained of vehicles being parked dangerously and blocking junctions and driveways when large crowd capacity matches take place; so fans are being asked to be considerate.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit and the local Neighbourhood Policing Team will join council civil enforcement officers on high visibility patrols before the 2.05pm kick-off. They are warning that anyone parking illegally will be fined.
Executive Board Member for Transport Cllr Hazel Evans said: “People are being encouraged to use the official car parks and the park and ride as well as public transport, with buses being laid on from the train station and other pick-up points.
“In previous years, spectators have parked their vehicles in the lay-by and on the grass verges along the main A484 Llanelli to Loughor road directly opposite the stadium. This is extremely dangerous for those exiting their vehicles and crossing the busy, National Speed Limit road. The lay-by will be closed on the day; preventing people from parking there and hopefully discouraging from parking along the verges as well. We are also discouraging people from parking on the Tata Steel road, which has double-yellow lines, as well as in nearby residential areas.
“We do not want to fine people but our civil enforcement officers will be on patrol, along with the police.”
Stadium manager Dave Healey said: “We are very supportive of the action being taken by the council and the police to ensure public safety.
“We are appealing to supporters to please park responsibly. Our neighbours have had problems with supporters parking outside their properties and blocking cars in. But more importantly their actions could obstruct emergency vehicle access.”
