This Tech Can Promote Student Mental Health and Prevent Active Shooter Situations

A survey of adults conducted in August 2019 on behalf of the American Psychological Association found that nearly 80% of adults said they experience stress as a result of the possibility of a mass shooting. Additionally, fear leads many survivors of gun violence to avoid situations where they might be reminded of the violence.

The same must be true for children in schools. If adults and adult survivors of gun violence feel stress and avoid situations where they are reminded of that violence, then we can safely reason that children feel similarly. These anxieties can heighten when schools implement extremely visible forms of gun violence reduction, such as metal detectors, pat downs, bag and locker checks.

Iterate.ai has a new Threat Awareness Technology that can keep schools safer than traditional metal detectors, and also reduce student anxiety and stress.

The Threat Awareness technology is able to identify and alert authorized personnel of hidden and visible weapons and active shooter situations before an armed individual even enters a building. Their technology is already integrated in over 3,500 locations globally which include private sector businesses, organizations and schools, including convenience stores. It’s integrated into security cameras, making it invisible (and stress reducing) to both students and staff.

“Iterate.ai’s Threat Awareness technology adds unwavering eyes in the skies on school grounds. This additional layer of security can alert authorized personnel of any potential weapons on campuses and can add several potentially life-saving minutes to get a school locked down in the event of an active shooter, and can be used by authorities to accurately locate exactly where a shooter currently may be on school grounds, allowing for the police to apprehend the shooter as quickly as possible swiftly,” explains co-founder of Iterate.ai Brian Sathianathan. “Parents and school boards need to know that this option exists and can be installed today as schools across the country gear up for another school year.”

This technology can be used as an alternative method to locker and bag checks and can keep students safe while also making sure they don’t feel even more anxious.

It is Iterate.ai’s sincere desire to make this Threat Awareness technology as widely available as possible by making the system’s advanced capabilities affordable to any organization — from schools, churches and hospitals to grocers, stadiums and other public spaces.
