Flooding in Carmarthen in 2020

News today has warned thunderstorms could be on the cards for the next two days after flash flooding hit London and southern England over the weekend. Home insurance expert at Confused.com, Jessica Willock, says:

“Brits are advised to be mindful of potential damage to their homes and gardens as more flood warnings have been issued today for some areas of the UK. Some parts of England saw a months’ worth of rain in just one day, so people in the UK are being encouraged to do what they can to protect their homes. Thunderstorms could result in fallen trees, water damage and defects to property exteriors.

“But more than 1 in 10 (11%) Brits admit that they’re confused about how they can protect their homes from these extreme weather conditions. Routine home maintenance such as clearing gutters, inspecting roof tiles and pruning trees can help to minimise any damage caused by flooding.

“Your buildings and contents insurance should cover you for flood damage to your home. If you’re unsure, check your policy or speak with your insurer. If you’re not covered, you might be able to add flood insurance to an existing policy or take it out separately.”
