Llwynhendy growing success yields award

Llwynhendy Environment Group have collected an award from Keep Wales Tidy (KWT).

 

 

 

 

The Group who were set up by Communities First Llwynhendy to tackle environment issues in the area have won KWP’s Community Led Regeneration Award for their Community Growing Spaces Project.

The official Press Release from Keep Wales Tidy says:

The Community Led Regeneration, launched this year and sponsored by Dŵr Cymru, was awarded to Llwynhendy Environment Group who removed 16 tonnes of waste and transformed a piece of wasteland, known locally as ‘The Tip’ into an area for the local community to enjoy.

The site now has 16 allotments and areas that the community can use. Flytipping and anti social behaviour has ceased and wildlife is being encouraged back into the area.

Lindy Butler, Communities First Llwynhendy Coordinator said:

“We are immensely proud of winning, as this recognises all the work that not only Communities First Llwynhendy and the Environment Group have done but also the community and all our partners as a whole”

Another Carmarthenshire winner was Keep Talog Tidy. They won the New Community Group category sponsored by Valleys to Coast. The group set out to make their community a cleaner, more pleasant environment in which to live. In the last year they have removed 5 tonnes of waste, planted native trees in order to increase the biodiversity of the area and held numerous ‘bring and take’ skip days, encouraging people to swap items that they no longer want. The work of the group has resulted in a significant drop in flytipping, and has created a sense of community spirit amongst the locals.
