Rangers were defending their half well against the pacy attack of the home team. Rangers Craig Spring was in dominant form and clearing the ball on most occasions.

However the Rangers defence was breached when Town’s experienced forward Gareth Phillips broke free and his cross goal shot hit the inside of the Rangers far goal post and rebounded across the goal line giving Rangers goal keeper Samuel Goodwin no chance of saving 1-1

The teams remained deadlocked at half time with both teams looking to the second half to get the win.

The second half started with both teams unable establish control within the game.

In the 78th minute Rangers broke forward with Taylor Smith’s pace beating the home defence and he was stopped with a trip up in Town’s penalty area.

The referee pointed to the penalty spot. Up stepped Rangers captain Chrissy Allen who powered the spot kick into the roof of Town’s goal net to restore the visitors lead 1-2

The last twenty minutes the game became fractious with some strong tackles being made from both teams.

As the game entered additional stoppage time the referee brandished his yellow card and subsequently a red to Rangers Declan Banfield in the 94th minute and worse was to follow two minutes later when the referee showed a straight red card to Rangers defender Tom Hole.

Rangers were down to nine men and were wondering when the referee was actually going to blow the final whistle.

Rangers didn’t have to wait too long after to hear the sound of the final whistle and celebrate their hard earned away win.
