Leading partnerships developer Lovell and Pobl Group have donated over £300 to The Royal British Legion’s Blackwood and District Branch, to help fund its Remembrance Day service.

Memorial – The War Memorial at Chartist Garden Village, Pontllanfraith

The service took place on Saturday 12th November, at the War Memorial at Chartist Garden Village, on the former council office site in Pontllanfraith.

On the day, attendees participated in a parade and two minutes silence, before taking part in a wreath laying ceremony. Following this, the service moved to St Augustine’s Church, where refreshments were provided.

To help fund the event, Lovell and Pobl donated £300, which went towards refreshments, and an additional £37 was spent on wreaths, which then went towards the Poppy Appeal.

To further honour Remembrance Day, Lovell installed poppy hoarding and put up lamppost poppies at Chartist Garden Village.

Gemma Clissett, regional partnerships director at Lovell, said: “We were delighted to donate over £300 and help Royal British Legion’s Blackwood and District Branch host this important service at Chartist Garden Village.

“It’s been lovely to walk around the site recently and admire the poppy-themed hoarding and lampposts. We are truly inspired by our local veterans, and hope that the Pontllanfraith community enjoyed themselves at this event. Community is at the heart of all we do at Lovell, and we always strive to support local people wherever possible.”

Neil Barber, Executive Director – Property & Investment at Pobl Group, said: “Retaining and providing access to the war memorial was a key part of this development. It is something the Council, Pobl and Lovell were all committed to achieving. We are honoured that so many members of the Royal British Legion’s Blackwood and District Branch, and members of the wider community, joined us here today for this remembrance service.

“Pobl means people, and we always strive to work closely with the local authority to ensure that our developments of new homes respect the local community and meet their needs.”

Chartist Garden Village is a design and build scheme being delivered by Lovell for Pobl Group and Caerphilly County Borough Council. The development will consist of 123 open market homes and affordable homes for rent and shared ownership.
