With spells playing in France, for Stade Francais and ASM Clermont Auvergne, Scarlets’ All Black centre Regan King is all too aware of the threats posed by Sunday’s European Rugby Champions Cup opposition Racing 92.
One of those threats is World Rugby player of the year Dan Carter who lines up in the midfield alongside fellow All Black Casey Laulala. Scarlets have named an all-Kiwi centre partnership of their own with King lining up with Hadleigh Parkes.
Speaking earlier this week about the challenge facing Scarlets on the weekend, at Racing 92’s Stade Yves-du-Manoir home, King said: “It’s pretty daunting and intimidating. They have some of the biggest names in world rugby and they’re on a bit of a roll at the moment.
“It’s a really tough place to go but the boys should be excited and looking forward to it.”
Whilst King was plying his trade in France with Clermont Auvergne the Scarlets secured a 13-19 victory over Racing 92.
King went on to say: “I remember watching that game, the boys put in a good performance. It’s no mean feat getting a result out there. We’ve got to go out and give it everything we’ve got.
“We’ve shown this year that we can grind out results; they may not be pretty but at the end of the day it’s a W and that’s what’s important. It’s all about executing a game plan, believing in each other, playing for the jersey and trying to win.”
