The MOST popular horror movies on the internet have been REVEALED and you may be surprised

Movie fanatics may be shocked as experts have named the most popular horror movie of all time. 

Considering box office sales, Rotten Tomatoes scores and Google searches, Solitaire Bliss has determined the most popular horror movie ever.

The 2017 fan favourite, It, clinched the top spot as the most popular movie on the internet. This supernatural horror garnered an impressive 84 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as 117,000 average monthly Google searches.

Followed closely behind in second place was the cult classic, Jaws. Almost fifty years after its release it seems this is still one of the most popular horror movies of all time. It achieved the highest Rotten Tomatoes audience score on the list with 90 per cent. However, it averages significantly fewer monthly Google searches than It, with 46,000.

In third place came the psychological horror, Split, starring James McAvoy. It received the third highest audience score on the list with 79 percent and an average monthly Google search volume of 96,000. It gained a Rotten Tomatoes score of 79 percent.

The appropriately named slasher-horror, Halloween, came in a joint third place with its eleventh instalment of the classic franchise. It averaged 513,000 monthly Google searches as well as hitting $255,485,178 at the box office. It had a Rotten Tomtoes score of 71 percent.

Sci-fi horror Prometheus topped its predecessor, Alien vs Predator, in the popularity rankings coming in fifth place. The Ridley Scott adaptation was the third highest-grossing movie on the list bringing in $403,354,469 at the box office. The film also boasts an impressive average of 40,000 Google searches per month and a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 68 percent.

According to the rankings, The Nun was named the sixth most popular horror movie. The 2018 instalment in The Conjuring Universe proved the least popular on the list amongst the Rotten Tomatoes audience with a score of 35 per cent. It generated $365,551,694 and 30,000 monthly Google searches.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter came in seventh place. The zombie horror had the fewest amount of monthly Google searches (5,600) and was given a 47 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, whilst grossing $312,257,250, the fifth highest on the list.

Classic horror, Saw III, was ranked the eighth most popular horror movie. It received a 71 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, $164,874,275 in the box office and 6,000 verified monthly Google searches.

The ninth most popular horror movie ever was Paranormal Activity 3. Back in 2011, this supernatural horror achieved $207,039,844 at the box office. Rotten Tomato users gave it 51 percent out of 100 and it has been 2,500 times a month on Google on average.

Alien vs Predator squeezed into the top ten gaining the same popularity ranking as Paranormal Activity 3. The classic crossover made $172,544,654 at the box office but was ranked the second-worst on the list by Rotten Tomatoes, who gave it an audience score of 39 percent. It also averaged 9,800 searches per month.

A spokesperson for Solitaire Bliss said: “The top ten most popular horror movies in this list are very diverse in terms of how they define the horror genre, this means there is something for everyone to enjoy this Halloween.

“Whether you’re into ghosts, zombies or aliens, this top ten has it all and it can make for the perfect spooky night in, movie marathon or trying something completely new.”

“It’s great to see some of the classics like Jaws in amongst some of the newer titles and it just goes to show that despite technological advancements, older movies can still be just as popular.”
