In a new study, Raisin UK crowns the “takeaway capital” of the UK, analysing which cities have the most takeout and delivery options in comparison to the population.
Cardiff crowned takeaway capital of Wales
Cardiff ranked #1 out of all Welsh cities in Raisin UK’s study, with an index score of 68.3 out of 100. Despite having 3,501 takeaways in the city, when compared to the population, the capital only has 98.23 takeaways per 10,000 people, falling behind Swansea and Newport with 125.22 and 106.5 options per 10,000 people respectively. However looking at takeaway density throughout the city, Cardiff ranks top with 127 takeaways per square mile.
When it comes to delivery apps, there are 12.29 UberEats deliveries per 10,000 people in Cardiff, the highest out of the Welsh cities. For Deliveroo, Cardiff ranks significantly higher than all Welsh cities offering 14.9 options per 10,000 people. However there are more Just Eat deliveries per 10,000 people in Newport at 18.83, and Swansea at 15.46, in comparison to Cardiff’s 14.79.
There 1,496 takeaway app options are clearly popular amongst Cardiff’s residents, who spend 3.71% of their disposable income on takeaways throughout the year, the 5th highest of all UK cities.
Out of all cities in the UK, Cardiff came in 9th, just behind Bradford, which has an index score of 69 out of 100. Newport followed closely at #13, whilst Swansea also made the top 20, ranking at #15.
