Ascot is one of Great Britain’s most notable and prestigious horse racing tracks. Several notable races are held on the Ascot racecourse, most notable of which is the Royal Ascot. However, the Royal Ascot is not the only popular festival that the Ascot hosts. The Ascot Hurdle is an annual Grade 2 hurdle race, open to horses over the age of 4. Sponsored by Coral, many might know it under the name “Coral Hurdle”, and many more will know it as one of the most popular betting events in the horse racing world.

However, the Ascot Hurdle has faced some massive hurdles in its own right this year. The dry cold weather has led to the track drying up, and becoming incredible difficult for horses to ride. Many managers have pulled their horses from the track, for fear of injury or fatality. And the races that took place were quite unsatisfying, considering competition was sparse. Naturally, the mood was dampened by this. After all, the Ascot Hurdle usually brings in quite a big audience, in many ways comparable to Cheltenham. Cheltenham is one of England’s biggest horse racing festivals, and race books have begun placing Cheltenham Festival offers up on their websites.

However, just a few days ago, a star horse came to brighten to mood of Ascot fans. Goshen won the Coral Hurdle after a notable absence from racing.

Who is Goshen?

Goshen is a 6-year-old colt, who has had quite a successful and notable career. He has raced over 50 times, winning a good chunk of them. Recently, Goshen has been taking a break from the track. However, his owners decided to place him back in the game during the Coral Hurdle at the Ascot. Jaime Moore took the reins and rode the brown colt to success.

Goshen’s victory certainly came as a surprise. It isn’t that he is not a fantastic horse. It is simply that many people believed that other candidates were more qualified to win, especially considering the horse was on break for quite a while. However, Goshen’s surprised everyone by reclaiming his former glory with class and poise.

Brewin’upastorm was the competitor to look out for. For most of the race, Goshen and Brewin’ were neck-in-neck. However, Mr. Moore pushed his colt to the fullest at the end of the race, winning the Coral Hurdle by an eight-and-a-half-length. The dour and disappointed fans’ moods were lifted while the spectacular race was happening, and it wouldn’t end there. Coole Cody’s performance would also further lift the mood in the Chanelle Pharma Chase.

Who is Coole Cody?

Coole Cody is an 11-year-old race horse, who has garnered quite a bit of experience from the years. He has participated in over 70 races, scoring a couple of dozen wins, and many more places. Coole Cody has experience in Chases, Hurdles, and pretty much any other horse racing event.

Ascot’s disappointed fans came to the event, believing that Saint Calvados would be the undisputed winner of the Chanelle Pharma Chase. However, unlike the Rangers in their last match, Coole Cody decided to give these fans quite a show, and actually managed to score a victory over Saint Calvados, placing at number 1.

Final Say

The dried up ground of the Ascot was certainly a massive disappointment for fans of the festival. Many horse trainers pulled their animals out of the races. And while disappointment was high, the move is also understandable. The safety and health of the horses should be of utmost priority to the managers, and to the event organisers. Despite it all, Coole Cody and Goshen gave the fans the excitement they were hoping for and managed to stand atop of the horse racing world, at least for a while.
