Scarlets’ Tom Phillips is one of an exciting group of young talent who have developed through the ranks at the region and benefited from exposure in top-level competition over recent months.
With international call-ups and injuries a number of Scarlets’ development players, including Phillips have been called into action for the senior side in both the Guinness PRO12 and European Rugby Champions Cup this season.
Llanelli born and bred Phillips says that representing the Scarlets on the European stage is a fantastic experience, he said: “It’s brilliant, as a kid this is the sort of things you dream of being a Llanelli boy. I’ve grown up wanting to play for the Scarlets. It’s the sort of things that dreams are made of!”
Phillips made his first Champions Cup appearance at Sctostoun Stadium, agaist Glasgow Warriors in round three but was forced from the field early after receiving a knock to the head.
Commenting on the experience, and coming off the bench against Racing 92 on the weekend, Phillips said: “It was tough but I’m still young. Every game is a chance to get a foot in the door. Any chance is a good chance. I’m feeling really positive and hopefully I can get more games.”
