Following on from the information provided  in December 2015 regarding quad bikes stolen in the Dyfed Powys area in the autumn months the following is advice is being given as a reminder.

Enforcement and targeted patrols by officers in Powys and Carmarthenshire during the second half of November and December saw no quad bikes being stolen from farms and agricultural businesses in the two counties.

However one incident of an attempt theft of a quad bike in the Newtown area, of Powys, on the 16th/17th January has served as a reminder for all quad bike owners and users to be mindful of the security of their vehicles at all times.

Sergeant Matthew Howells, is again appealing to farmers to secure their quad bikes when not in use.

“Officers are tasked to proactively patrol rural areas where quad bikes have been known to be stolen from in the past. Farmers can be reassured that we are taking the issue seriously, however, should not become complacent. With the lambing season either underway or about to start many of you will be routinely checking fields of ewes and lambs, leaving your quad bikes on the yard whilst checking activity in your lambing sheds and so forth. Please do not leave your quad bike with the key in it, even for the shortest period of time. Lock the vehicles in secure sheds when not in use.”

“As the days start to get longer now and you spend more time travelling around your farm checking on stock please be mindful of anyone you see who may be ‘checking out’ the area. Keep a note of vehicle registration numbers and a description of persons who seem out of place. Report anything suspicious to police on 101.”
