People returning to work after the Christmas break are being urged to avoid travelling by rail this week because of strikes. Car insurance expert, Louise Thomas, at Confused.com says:

“As the festive period comes to an end, rail strikes will be a challenge for those commuting back to work. Many more will resort to driving as a result to get to where they need to go. If this is the case for you, here are a few tips to help you prepare ahead of your journey:

·       Keep an eye on traffic announcements and set off a little earlier

·       Where possible, try to avoid the peak commuting times

·       Ensure you have enough fuel for your journey before setting off

·       Check tyre pressure and oil levels to avoid any unwanted stops on the way

“Unfortunately, longer journey times and congested roads means you’re likely to spend more on fuel. With high fuel costs and the strain of the cost of living, drivers are keen to make the most out of their tank. To do this, our fuel-saving tips could help get more out of your mileage over the ongoing strikes.”
