Netflix’s most streamed series, Squid Game, takes the top spot as the most confusing show, with 13,990 searches.- In second place is Ricky Gervais’ After Life, which has 7,490 searches.
- Other series to make it into the top 10 include Ozark, Too Close, and Peaky Blinders.
Ending a TV show you were hooked on for a while can be a roller coaster of emotions. Some endings make us sad or happy, some leave us with lots of anger because of the destiny of our favourite character, while can leave us simply stumped.
A new research commissioned by Gembyte.com took a look at Google search data to see which show endings have left the Britons so confused that they had to turn to Google for some clarification.

1. Squid Game – 13,990 searches
The thrilling show has the most confusing ending out of all the shows, at least according to Google. With almost 14,000 searches, it is safe to say that confusion is among the many emotions the Brits have felt after bingeing this dystopian masterpiece.
2. After Life – 7,490 searches
Although Gervais’ dark comedy won’t be returning for another season, the show has done an amazing job at conveying its bittersweet message in the show’s three seasons: life is short and it goes on no matter what, so enjoy it while you’re still around.
3. The Tourist – 5,840 searches
Although we cannot be sure, it is implied that Elliot, played by Jamie Dornan, survives and carries on with his life with Helen by his side. After everything he has been through, the show appears to give him another chance in life, and we will see how he manages as the show has been renowned for a second season.
4. Ozark – 5,010 searches
After following the Byrde family for 4 seasons, fans praised all elements of the show; they were drawn in by the amazing cast, character development, cinematography, and the plot. The Byrdes are reunited with their estranged son in the final scene of the show, with the audience left wondering what or who exactly did Jonah’s bullet hit.
5. Chloe – 4,160 searches
Many viewers were confused and left with so many questions after the somewhat abrupt ending of the series. Fans praised the talent of the cast and the plot, but the majority of them agree that Becky deserved a different, or at least a better explained ending.
6. Too Close – 3,900 searches
With the brilliant Emily Watson and Denise Gough portraying the two main characters, the viewers were in for a treat from the beginning. The series, exploring the various aspects of womanhood, gave no clear resolution of its enticing plot, leaving its audience wondering about the outcome of Connie’s hearing and her fate in or outside of the psychiatric hospital.
7. Lie With Me – 3,100 searches
Full of scheming and manipulating, Lie With Me gives a glimpse into the life of a British family that moves to Australia in search of a fresh start after a turbulent period. Considering the numerous twists and turns, it is no wonder that many needed some additional explanations after the series’ end.
8. Killing Eve – 2,760 searches
After 4 seasons, just as the fans of the show thought that Eve and Villanelle can finally be together in peace, the show’s creators decided to take the perfect ending away from the fans, leaving them unsatisfied and wanting better for Sandra Oh’s titular character.
9. The Drowning – 2,300 searches
The Drowning earned mixed reviews from its audience; despite the enormous talent among the cast, the plot and the characters left much to be desired. One thing the show deserves praise for is that, after all those years of wondering about their son’s faith, Jodie and Ben are given closure in the end.
10. Peaky Blinders – 2,300 searches
After waiting for 3 years, the fans were in for a treat with the sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders. The finale leaves the fans on a hopeful note, as they await for Peaky Blinders: Redemption of Thomas Shelby, which is set to go into production this year.
