Europasat connects over 1,000 homes and businesses across rural Wales with superfast satellite broadband connectivity

Over 1,000 homes and businesses all over Wales are now enjoying superfast broadband connectivity, thanks to satellite broadband technology from Europasat.

Europasat is the only pan European, independent satellite broadband company. It specialises in connecting rural and last-mile homes and businesses who do not have access to fibre broadband, but still want to take advantage of everything the Internet has to offer.

The Superfast Cymru project is aiming to make 30Mbps+ fibre broadband available to 96% of Wales by the end of 2016. Europasat has been focusing on connecting homes and businesses that are yet to receive, or will be unlikely to receive, this fibre-based broadband with its satellite alternative.

Unlike traditional fixed line broadband services, satellite broadband can work anywhere. As with satellite television, customers just need to install a small satellite dish on their property and then data is transmitted and received to satellites orbiting the earth. Customers can enjoy download speeds of up to 30Mbps and upload speeds at up to 2Mbps.  Given this flexibility, Europasat’s satellite broadband solution has proved very popular for homes and businesses in rural Wales – giving them the ability to enjoy their location without suffering digital exclusion.

Europasat is also an accredited partner of the recently launched Welsh broadband subsidy scheme. New customers in Wales can get their satellite broadband subsidised, providing they can double their Internet speeds with the selected subsidised tariff – people with no Internet currently are also eligible. There are three different satellite tariffs, with a top download speed of 30Mbps and no installation or hardware costs. Welsh residents only have to pay the first month’s line rental upfront. Lindsay Barton, Golden Kite Solutions Ltd, a small media consultancy business located on the mid Powys Shropshire borders, comments: “We loved the beautiful rural location of our office, but being situated over ten miles from the BT exchange meant that we had to suffer broadband download speeds of around 300 Kbps, which seriously slowed down how fast we could offer services and respond to customers. We thought that we would have to move, but then we discovered that we could install a satellite broadband service and get it funded by Welsh Assembly Broadband Support Scheme to boot!

“We are delighted with the service and impressed by the recent developments that will enable us to take additional services and increase our bandwidth as our business expands.”

Europasat is the only satellite broadband company that can connect customers to any satellite network in Europe. It is part of the Satellite Solutions Worldwide family.
