STATEMENT ON UK BUDGET 2023

Commenting on today’s UK Budget, Mid and West Wales Senedd Member, Eluned Morgan said:

“Today’s budget is a ‘kick in the teeth’ to hardworking families across Mid and West Wales, who are desperate for some respite after a cost-of-living crisis few will have witnessed before. As the squeeze on household incomes continues to tighten, the Chancellor provided no certainty that household bills would fall anytime soon.

“Yet again, the Tory government has delivered a budget that has failed to reward public sector workers, like teachers and nurses, who we all know deserve more.

“There is also little comfort for those on the lowest incomes – just the worry and stress of changes to a system that already punishes and demonises people in receipt of benefits.

“From a Welsh perspective, the lack of funding for capital investment or any extra help to meet the challenges of delivering health and social services is shocking.

“The Tories have presided over 13 years of crisis in our economy, forcing families into hardship and cutting public services beyond all recognition.”
