Get your walking boots on and get outdoors– enjoy a new five mile circular path near Lampeter this March

Local walkers and ramblers will benefit from a new project aimed at opening a five mile circular path near Lampeter this March.

The five mile circular path goes from Cellan, taking in the hills around the Teifi Valley village, and aims to get people enjoying the outdoors and Welsh countryside.

The project is funded by the Welsh Government and is part of Ceredigion County Council’s Rights of Way Improvement Plan 2015, which aims to improve paths and routes across the county for residents.

Councillor Gareth Lloyd, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Economic and Community Development Service, said: “The volunteer groups have done a lot of excellent work so far, with several awkward stiles replaced with self-closing gates, and ten bridges of various sizes have been installed across numerous streams and ditches.”

So far, Lampeter Ramblers Volunteer Group and Aberystwyth Ramblers Volunteer Group with help from local contractors Dyfrig Jones, Richard Hicks and Alistair Severs have carried out work on various stages of the route, with the last stage be completed over the next few weeks.

Gareth adds: “We would also like to thank local landowners who have given their full co-operation, and allowing us access to these paths during the wet winter. Their support has been invaluable and will enable the work to be completed on time.”

The opening of the circular route is part of Visit Wales’ Year of Adventure, aiming to get more people to go on their own local adventure, and make the most of this new route, and enjoy this beautiful part of Wales at the same time.

Work will take place at Tyncoed over the next week or so, and both Lampeter and Aberystwyth Ramblers Volunteer Groups have recently been involved with works to the path between Cadwgan and Pant y Pistyll.

Lampeter Ramblers will use this route as their annual combined Ceredigion Association Walk held in May this year. If you would like to join them at this event please visit their website http://www.lampeterramblers.org.uk for more information.
