A CARMARTHEN business has been fined £75 for dumping rubbish in a car park.

Council environmental enforcement officers received a complaint that rubbish had been left in Lammas Street car park.

They managed to link the waste to a nearby business.

The owner admitted the offence and also that he did not have an agreement in place for the disposal of his business waste.

He was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75 for the litter offence; as well as a statutory notice for him to set up a trade waste agreement with a licensed waste company. Failure to comply with the notice could result in prosecution.

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “All businesses must have an agreement in place with a fully licensed waste company to make sure that any waste produced during the course of their business, is stored, transported and disposed of without harming the environment.

“The majority of businesses are compliant with the legislation but we will not hesitate to take action against those who are not.”
