Chris Harvey, Interior and property expert from Stelrad comments:

“In the last month alone in the UK, we have seen several trends in what people want in their homes. The royal coronation has clearly sparked an interest in a particular style of decoration, perhaps hinting that ‘Regencycore’ is on the way back, and perhaps an ode to the new Bridgerton prequel about Queen Charlotte coming to Netflix.”

Seven royal-inspired design tips:

  1. Choose sumptuous fabrics like silk and velvet: Rich textures, like silk and velvet, can be used to add opulence. Velvet is luxurious, draping well & perfect for a touch of Regency-era chic to your home, with searches for ‘velvet curtain’ up 113%, as well as ‘velvet furniture’, up by 43%.
  2. Dress a room with dainty and decorative accessories: Add regal flair to your home with ornate side tables & tasselled pillows. Clearly, it’s all in the details with consumers searching for tassel blankets and cushions, up 60% on average in just 30 days.
  3. Pick out patterned wallpaper: Regency-era decor was all about layering fabrics & patterns, mixing wallpaper styles for a modern twist, or opting for a damask style wallpaper. Over the last month, searches for regal inspired wallpaper styles have creeped up 124%, whilst searches for delicate wallpaper have gone up 141%.
  4. Incorporate dreamy pastels: Pastels create a calming atmosphere and evoke happiness and romance. Searches for living room pastels are up by 71%, so why not pair powder blue with lavender, blush pink, or mint green for depth and contrast.
  5. Enhance your bathroom with a clawfoot bathtub: Freestanding bathtubs with claw feet keep the Regency era alive and are an easy way to get the royal look. Clawfoot bathtubs are clearly well-loved by the nation, sparking homeowners’ interest by 111%.
  6. Arrange furniture symmetrically: Organise furniture symmetrically for a Regency-style look. Whether you choose ornate, opulent pieces in dark wood for a smaller royal inspired space, searches for ‘living room layout’ is up by 79% showing people’s interest in perfecting their room design.
  7. Find your perfect statement bed: Add a touch of luxury to your bedroom with a four-poster bed: the “bed of kings” used by royalty throughout history, helping you feel like a king/queen every morning and night! And with Google searches for a four poster bed increasing by 135% in the last month, people are certainly dreaming of sleeping like a king or queen!
