Ready to celebrate the coronation of the king? Home and Interiors designer Yvonne Ellen gives her top tips on throwing a memorable tea party that’s fit for royalty!
With elegant place settings, iconic coronation quiches, and tipples fit for a king, this is the perfect way to gather friends and family to mark this special occasion. Including nibbles, drinks, activities for the kiddo’s, coronation tunes and even a coronation cocktail. This guide has everything you need to make the most of the bank holiday weekend and throw the ultimate boozy tea party:
Bring out your finest China tea set
The most important part is the setting for your tea party must feel royal, cute and most of all include the Best of British! Bring out the best teacup and saucers with gilt gold detailing, layered sandwich and cake plates and add a cute cake fork for each place setting!
Layer these up depending on your colour combination, here I used a mix of spring pastels for my table setting which brings out a fun personality to the celebration.
Don’t forget lots of serving platters for all your delish scones and finger sandwiches. To truly channel the celebration – save some space for hanging bunting, Union Jack flags and an ice bucket of your fave champers!
Personalised place setting
Think about personalising the place settings using royals as guests! I simply printed out a pic of Harry, Meghan, Prince William, and Kate and popped them in a teacup and saucer.
Serve up munchies that are fit for royalty!
From Coronation chicken to platinum pudding, royal occasions demand a signature dish and King Charles III’s coronation is no exception! The “coronation quiche” was personally chosen by the king and Camilla, the Queen Consort, using UK-grown produce, this will be a big hit at tea parties all over England for the weekend.
Following the Royal Families recipe and grabbing my best cookware, the Coronation Quiche was super easy to make! I believe anything can look good served in pastel dishes with a cute cake slice to go alongside, your guests are bound to be WOW-ed!
If you’re not a quiche-lover; finger sandwiches, scones, and a classic Victoria sponge cake always accompany a cup of tea perfectly!
Coronation Cocktails Anyone?
The drinks you serve at your King’s Coronation tea party are just as important as the crown itself. Let’s face it, you can’t go wrong with a classic champers – after all, nothing says cheers to the King like popping a bottle of bubbly. But why not throw in a few playful signature cocktails to really get the party started? May we suggest “The Royal Refresher” – a refreshing blend of cucumber, mint, and gin fit for a king? Or perhaps “The Crown Jewel” – a regal mix of vodka, pomegranate juice, and a generous splash of sparkling water.
To add a bit of pizzazz to your tea party tipple, how about adding a King Charles face to your glass. Whether you’re serving in your favourite boozy teacup or a gilt gold glass, make a royal stand with a Union Jack flag or an edible King Charles III. These are sure to be a crowd-pleaser!
Tea Party Tunes
Creating a Spotify playlist is my favourite way to make sure I’ve got the right tunes for the day with no stress. You can tailor your playlist completely to your taste and make sure it fits your vibe. Whether you’re a classical listener or more of a Queen Bee fan. This is a must for a fun tea party!
However, if you’re celebrating on the Bank Holiday, make sure the champers are free-flowing. Or if you’re going for a more understated affair, the pot of tea stays topped up and you’re indulging your guests with coronation quiche, cakes and scones. Most of all make sure you’re having fun!
