Aberglasney Gardens to feature in S4C series ‘Garddio a Mwy’ presented by Carol Williams. The episode will be first shown from 8.25pm on Monday, 15 May 2023 and then available online and catchup.

During the S4C series join Iwan and Sioned Edwards at their beautiful garden in Pont-y-Tŵr to learn some of their gardening secrets. Follow Meinir Gwilym and Adam Jones (Adam yn yr Ardd) as they’ll be showing how to make the most of our gardens. All on S4C, S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer.

During next Monday’s episode Carol will explore various aspects of the 10 acres and 20 different garden styles at Aberglasney. Viewers will see the Kitchen Garden, Pigeon House Woodland, the Alpinum Garden and Bishop Rudd’s Walk. Footage was shot of the Malus Arbor (Malus sargentii), the magnolia trees in bloom, the Candelabra Primulas, the Trilliums and lots more.

Aberglasney Gardens’ Director of Operations, Jim Stribling, said, “We were pleased to welcome the crew from Garddio a Mwy to the Gardens recently. Of particular interest to viewers will be the opportunity to see one of Aberglasney’s most asked about features, our breathtaking Malus Arbor, in bloom. The Crab Apple Arch can be found in our Kitchen Garden. It will be a treat for viewers to see how beautiful the Gardens look at this time of year.”

Aberglasney Trustee, Helen Scut, has also been interviewed for the programme about Box Blight as Aberglasney’s gardening team replaced the Box hedge in the Upper Walled Garden earlier this year with dwarf Rhododendron. Box blight is a fungal disease of box resulting in bare patches and die-back, especially in topiary.

Carol Williams was excited to visit Aberglasney Gardens for the first time to film for the S4C series. She said, “The producers asked me where I would like to visit to do a feature and without hesitation I asked if I could film at Aberglasney as I’ve been wanting to visit for such a long time. The Gardens did not disappoint. I was like a child in a sweet shop walking from different aspect of the Gardens to another. I’ve promised I’ll be back to see the Gardens through the seasons.”

To watch the Garddio a Mwy episode that includes Aberglasney tune into S4C on Monday evening, 15 May 2023 (subtitles will be available). The programme will also be available online on BBC iplayer and S4C Clic: https://www.s4c.cymru/clic/programme/840892919
