Pembrokeshire County Council has appointed Kate Evan-Hughes as the new Director for Children and Schools.

It follows final interviews for the post yesterday (Tuesday) by the County Council’s Senior Staff Committee.

Mrs Evan-Hughes became Interim Director for Children and Schools in late 2014, following the departure of the previous Director Jake Morgan.

Prior to that, she was Pembrokeshire County Council’s Head of Education.

Brought up in Welshpool, Mrs Evan-Hughes began her career in education as a maths and ICT teacher in England before becoming a Headteacher at Llandogo Primary School in Monmouthshire.

From there she moved on to become a Principal School Improvement Advisor and then Assistant Head of Education at Newport City Council.

She studied for a degree in Economic History at Swansea University and has a MA in Special Educational Needs from the Open University as well as a PGCE.
