Admission to the Bee exhibition is FREE from Monday 15th May to Saturday 20th May.
This year Afon Mêl Honey Farm and Meadery will be celebrating World Bee Day by giving away a “FREE-BEE”, shining a spotlight on the importance of the wonderful honey bee.
The free entry to the exhibition gives a rare opportunity to get up close to live honeybee colonies, enabling safe observation from behind glass. A view that, normally, only beekeepers see. You’ll also learn about honey production, bee communication, and the critical role these insects play in our food system.
By celebrating World Bee Day at Afon Mêl we hope to raise awareness about the importance of these incredible insects and how hard they work as pollinators. We hope to inspire a new generation of bee enthusiasts and create a memorable day for families and nature lovers alike.
Sam Cooper, Owner, said: “We want to raise awareness of the essential role honey bees and other pollinators play in caring for our environment and ensuring a thriving world for the next generation. I’ve been beekeeping for 36 years and I am thrilled to invite everyone to join us for World Bee Day at Afon Mêl Honey Farm & Meadery”
Today, bees face threats from pesticides, habitat loss and climate change. Bees are responsible for pollinating so much of the food we eat. Without bees and other pollinators, it would be very difficult to produce enough food to feed us all. May 20th is a day to raise awareness of the importance of protecting and preserving bees and other pollinators. It honours not just honeybees, but bumblebees and solitary bees too.
Y Seler, the prestigious new venue in Aberaeron, and the award-winning Albion in Cardigan have both joined in the celebrations by offering the ultimate Bee’s Knees cocktail, featuring Welsh honey produced by Afon Mêl.
Y Seler is encouraging others to add honey-based cocktails to their cocktail menu this week to highlight the importance of these incredible insects. ” Adding a honey-based cocktail to our menu may seem like a small act but it is something very simple we can do and we want to bring awareness to the plight of the bees.” Bar Manager, Paul Davies commented, “Bees are responsible for one of every four bites of food that we eat. Losing bees would be a disaster.” This is a way for people to get involved simply by enjoying a Bee’s Knees cocktail. Bar manager at Y Albion, Cardigan commented “ As the award-winning venue in Cardigan, we have always believed that working with local ingredients and products makes for the most exceptional dishes & drinks. This is our way of having a bit of fun whilst supporting bee conservation.”
