Bargoed May Fair

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Bargoed May Fair, which took place on Saturday the 13th of May, attracted a record-breaking number of visitors to the town, making it an incredible success.

Bargoed welcomed an outstanding 16,410 visitors to the fair, with the peak attendance being at mid-day. People even came from Rhondda, Newport, Tenby, and Carmarthenshire!  This was the busiest day for the town in a very long time, with 15,266 more visitors in the town compared to the previous Saturday. It was the highest footfall in Bargoed since footfall counters were installed in 2018.

The day was fun filled with fun fair rides, food, drink and craft stalls, street entertainment, famous replica cars, and even animals. There was a positive atmosphere and local businesses and the community have been hugely benefitted from the turn out.

Hear what local businesses said about the event:

Alex Hancox of Hancox’s Pies said “Ten out of ten, as always! We sold out an hour and a half before the end of the event!”

Anthony Strinati from Continental Café said “It was very well organised; I don’t know where the council found all those people! People who’d never been to Bargoed said they thought it was a tremendous place, and we were very fortunate with the weather. Overall, a great day in Bargoed. Thank you, CCBC.”

Sam Collins of B. Thomas Pet & Garden Supplies commented “It was brilliant, lovely to see so many people and it was the busiest I’ve seen Bargoed town centre. Thanks to CCBC and Bargoed Town Council for subsidising ride prices to make them more affordable. A good time was had by all.”

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Prosperity, Regeneration & Climate Change, also commented “What a fantastic day. The busiest day in Bargoed for many years. I’d like to thank the public, businesses, our events team, and Bargoed Town Council for their support. It was a truly awesome day!”

The Bargoed May Fair was organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council and jointly funded by CCBC and Bargoed Town Council.
