THE Chairman of Carmarthenshire County Council has welcomed a peace run to the National Botanic Garden.

Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths was at the Garden to welcome the participants in the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run.

They arrived at the Garden on Sunday morning before the start of a 5km race and 2.5km Fun Run at 9am.

Cllr Hughes Griffiths presented the prizes before helping Lord Dafydd Elis Thomas to unveil a peace statue in a new peace garden area.

He said: “It was excellent. We unveiled a bronze statue at the Botanic Garden. I’m pleased to support the effort to promote peace in this country and internationally.”

Cllr Hughes Griffiths again met the peace runners on Monday morning when they called in at County Hall before moving on to Ysgol y Dderwen to meet the Town Mayor and Headteacher.
