Mind, the mental health charity, is appealing for people in Wales to take part in a unique fundraising event, which will see people hike the Offa’s Dyke Trail to raise money to support those with mental health problems.

From 1 to 3 July, two teams of Mind supporters will go head-to-head to complete a nonstop 24 hour, 40km trek along the historic Offa’s Dyke National Trail. One team will hike from the South while the other begins from the North. The challenge is to cover the 80km distance in just 24 hours, trekking day and night, to meet up with the other team for a victory celebration at the historic Chirk Castle.

One in four people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. Many of the participants in the Mind Hike have personal reasons for taking on this unique challenge, making them passionate about raising money for Mind.

Graham Murphy, supporter and participant, said: “I am 39 years old and I have been experiencing depression since I was 16. I can’t wait to take part in such an exciting challenging, especially as I will be able to raise awareness and money for something extremely close to my heart. The money raised will go towards helping others, in similar situations to me, while at the same time reducing the stigma that can so often surround the issue of mental health.”

Alexa Hawkins, Senior Community Fundraising Officer, said: “We are particularly excited about this unique fundraising event as it challenges fundraisers to walk both day and night, raising money for an excellent cause and in beautiful surroundings. Money raised will fund our vital work including the Mind Infoline, our advice services and the campaigning we do to secure a better deal for the one in four people who experience a mental health problem every year

Places are limited for this one-off trek, and applications close on Friday 25 March so if you would like to share an amazing experience and support Mind at the same time, visitwww.mind.org.uk to find out more.
