A major scheme is underway to improve safety along the A484 between Kidwelly and Cwmffrwd in Carmarthen.
It includes road treatment works, reduced speed limits, new warning signs and driver feedback signs. A new pedestrian island will also be constructed in Cwmffrwd near the junction with Bolahaul Road.
The scheme is part of the council’s rural route improvement programme to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on our roads.
The council’s transport department received a Road Safety Grant of £439,000 from Welsh Government to carry out the works along with similar schemes on the A485 between Alltwalis and Llanybydder and the B4306 between Hendy and Cwmffwrd.
A further £219,000 project is also taking place along the stretch of the A484 between Cwmffrwd and Pibwrlwyd to construct a new shared pedestrian and cycle way providing a strategic link to schools, colleges, retail parks, town centre, leisure centre and wider Carmarthen area.
Executive Board Member for Transport Cllr Hazel Evans said: “This scheme will help to slow down traffic along the A484 and improve safety for all road users.
“The new pedestrian and cycle way between Cwmffrwd and Pibwrlwyd is much needed with both Coleg Sir Gâr and Ysgol Bro Myrddin in the area; providing a vital link to town and further afield.”
