Marc Tierney, Welsh Labour’s Assembly Candidate for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire has launched his campaign as the countdown gets underway for the Welsh General Election on May 5th.

Amongst the attendees of the launch event in Tenby last weekend were supporters from across West Wales and guest speaker, the Shadow Secretary of State for Wales, Nia Griffith MP.

In her address, Ms Griffith praised the 36-year-old dad of three for his hard work during the campaign so far, saying that Marc Tierney has set the local political agenda and has gone further than most to resolve some of the pressing issues affecting local people. The former Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire resident, now MP for Llanelli said:

“Marc is a real campaigner and will make an excellent AM for his constituency. He brings fresh ideas, fresh thinking and enthusiasm. Raising his family in this area, he understands the needs and challenges facing our communities. In the Assembly, he will be a really strong voice for West Wales.”

In his speech to supporters, Marc Tierney highlighted Welsh Labour’s record, delivering on all pledges made in 2011. One of the biggest achievements has been Jobs Growth Wales. Scores of local companies have been involved joining many thousands more across Wales. To date, 15,000 young people have benefitted from what has become the most successful programme of its kind in Western Europe and one which has been abandoned by the Tories in England.

In a new pledge, Welsh Labour promises 100,000 quality apprenticeships for all ages. Wales will lead the way with the most ambitious childcare pledge across the UK, as Welsh Labour has a fully costed plan to provide 30 hours of free childcare for 3 and 4 year olds over 48 weeks of the year. A new treatment fund for life threatening illnesses will also be launched in addition to maintaining free prescriptions, free bus passes and free school meals, should Welsh Labour form the next Welsh Government.

Marc Tierney said:

“We had a fantastic turn out for the launch of my campaign in Tenby. The message from voters is clear: local people want an AM who will represent and engage with them all year and not just at election time.

If elected, I promise to do that, with the same passion and leadership I have already shown throughout my campaign. I won’t just speak up about local issues, I’ll put those words into action to
carry on fighting for local hospital services, to safeguard local jobs and improve skills
and to stand against the Tory cuts that are having a devastating impact on public services

and the standard of living for local families. Only Labour can challenge the Tories here.”
