- Bath is the most sleepless UK city, according to new findings
- Inverness and Liverpool take second and third, respectively
New research has revealed the most sleepless UK cities, with Bath coming out on top.
The study by BedKingdom.co.uk analysed average Google searches for the past 12 months for key terms around sleeplessness, sleep remedies and more to see which cities had the highest number of searches for every 100,000 people.
It found that Bath is the UK’s most sleepless city. Each month, there are, on average 1,268 searches for sleep-related terms, which, for a population of 94,092 people, means there are roughly 1,347 searches per 100,000 people, the highest of any city.
Inverness takes second on the list as the only Scottish city to feature in the top ten. For a population of just 46,870 people, there are 627 sleep-related searches each month, which is 1,337 searches per 100,000 people.
Coming in third place is Liverpool. One of the UK’s biggest cities, there are a whopping 6,306 searches each month for a population of 484,488, yet the city only comes third with 1,302 searches per 100,000 people.
Fourth place goes to the city of Norwich. The Norfolk-based city sees, on average, 1,841 searches for sleep-related terms each month, which for a population of 143,118, is around 1,286 searches per 100,000 people.
Rounding out the top five is the city of Lincoln. The city has a population of 102,330, with around 1,308 monthly sleep-related searches. This means there are 1,278 searches per 100,000 people.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson for BedKingdom.co.uk said: “Being able to fall asleep quickly or achieve a full and comfortable night’s sleep is something that is often easier said than done. However, many modern methods exist, and the internet is full of many methods to try, so it’s no surprise that Google is where people are going for answers for sleeplessness.
