COUNCIL road safety officers have been out talking to motorcyclists as part of an initiative to reduce the number of casualties involved in motorcycle collisions.

They joined officers from partner agencies at the Owl’s Nest Tea Rooms in Llandovery on Bank Holiday Sunday to give information and advice.

Those in attendance included the Institute of Advanced Motorists, RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders, Mid and Wet Wales Fire and Rescue Services, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Blood Bikes Wales.

The council signed up a number of riders to its free motorcycle courses Dragon Rider Cymru and Biker Down! Cymru.

Both the IAM and RoADAR signed up new members and Blood Bikes Wales got a new rider.

The council’s Head of Transport and Engineering Stephen Pilliner, also chair of the Community Safety Partnership’s Road Safety Action Group, said: “The day was a great success with many motorcyclists engaging with us and our partners and further engagement days will be held throughout the year.

“Reducing the number of motorcyclists killed and seriously injured on our roads is a priority for the council and partner agencies and much work is underway to educate both motorcycle riders and other drivers in relation to safety and driving/riding skills.”

For further information on the courses, which are free to Carmarthenshire residents thanks to road safety grant funding from Welsh Government, visitwww.carmarthenshire.gov.wales/roadsafety.
