National Walking Month – May 2012

May 2012 has been designated National Walking Month by the national charity Living Streets. Living Streets work to create safe, attractive and enjoyable streets, where people want to walk.

Throughout May there are 3 main campaigns that people can get involved in:

  • The Great British Walking Challenge (1st May – 31st May)
  • Walk to Work Week (14th May – 18th May)
  • Walk to School Week (21st May – 25th May)

These are great opportunities to encourage people and communities to go walking and to highlight the associated benefits. To find out more please visit – www.livingstreets.org.uk

Also on May 5th the Ramblers will be launching the opening of the Wales Coast Path.

The Welsh Government along with Countryside Council for Wales and the Ramblers are coordinating a weekend of walks and events and they would like as many people and organisations as possible to get involved and spread word about the launch.

It will be the first time that 870 miles of coast path will be joined up right around the whole coast of Wales. For more information please visit – www.ramblers.org.uk/wales
